Finding a new, neat little restaurant in the most unlikeliest of places is almost like finding money you forgot you had in a coat pocket. We ended up venturing to the historic Belmont Village in Waterloo to try out the Belmont Bistro.
It's small and cozy on the inside with a bar table for customers who want a quick bite.
We ordered the Russian pancakes with blueberries and syrup that was featured on their "Specials" Menu on the blackboard. The Russian pancakes have a slightly different taste and texture to it (I think because of the extra eggs in the batter) than normal pancakes which I like for it's less flour-y taste. The blueberry sauce and syrup complimented the pancakes well and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too sweet.
The fried chicken and waffle was what drew us to come here in the first place and it did not disappoint! The waffles were made from cornmeal and the chicken was freshly fried- a thin, crunchy batter on the outside but still so juicy on the inside. To my surprise, it was the raspberry sauce with maple syrup and a little bit of sriracha that completed the dish. The sweet and sour flavours took away any of the oily feeling that you might've felt from the chicken .
The Belmont Bistro makes for a nice brunch on the weekend however, they are only open until 2pm for brunch and then reopen at 5pm for dinner most days of the week so make sure to check their website for hours of operation before you come!
