Balzac's (at the Tannery, Kitchener-Waterloo)

Now that I'm back in school, it's back to coffee shop hopping. Thankfully, there's a Balzac's close enough to campus.

Aside from Balzac's iconic cup, they have 4-5 different blends of coffee to choose from and different seasonal drinks on the menu. I tried the Farmer's Blend, which has a citrus and lighter taste although I think the Balzac's House Blend would be more of a medium roast.

My friend ordered the regular latte. I'm not a huge fan of lattes (too much milk) but I thought it was an interesting cup to serve it in as there was no ear to hold so you end up holding the cup/bowl or using the spoon to spoon it out (to each their own I guess).

On the other occasions that I've been here, I tried their special seasonal drinks including the Cafe Nordique- they put honey in it which gives it a special flavour and is perfect for those who like a sweeter flavour! They also have the option of using almond milk in their drinks.

Balzac's is also my go to place for studying or a place to sit and talk with a friend. It's far enough for most students to come here all the time but close enough that it's only a 15-20min bus ride. There is always room and I like the quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

Balzac's is strictly Canadian (only Ontario I think) but they have places all over the province including Distillery District, Toronto Reference Library and near Ryerson in downtown Toronto, Guelph, Niagara-on-the-Lake,
