A Day at Seoul City Hall

Believe it or not, there are actually quite a lot of things to do near Seoul City Hall. This guide will show you the best way to spend your day and even uncover some hidden gems for you!

Deoksugung Palace
Start your day bright and early here at Deoksugung Palace if you want to avoid most of the crowds. It opens everyday at 9am and is perfect even just for a simple date or a quiet stroll through this traditional and modern park.
You can read our post here for more information on Deoksugung Palace.

Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway
After touring the inside of the Deoksugung Palace, the street vendors would have set up their tables by now along the Stonewall Walkway. This iconic stonewall borders the palace and is popular for couple photos and #ootd photos.
If you're also a fan of SNSD's Yoona, you might notice this is the inspiration and the location for her MV Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway with 10cm!

Jungmyeongjeon Hall
Another important historic site, Jungmyeongjeon Hall is a place that witnessed key events in Korea's history. It was originally used as a study by Emperor Gojong although he used it as his private quarters after the fire at Deoksugung Palace in 1904. In 1905, the forced signing of the Eulsaneukyak took place here between Japan and Korea. Today, it is restored to its original appearance and is used as a museum to educate the history that took place here. It is open to the public for free.
To protect the original tile flooring, a glass covering was installed and visitors are asked to wear slippers before entering.

Seoul Museum of Art
Wander in here after a day of cultural sightseeing. You can check out the modern art exhibitions before the day ends. Visit the SMA website for more information on current exhibitions installations.

Also, the path leading to the Museum of Art might be familiar for some of you kdrama fans. This is one of the filming sites where the popular drama "My Love from Another Star" filmed, starring Kim Soo Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun (the scene where Do Min Joo is explaining to his professor friend why he got his cellphone).

Waffles from Limburg
Coming from Canada where maple syrup and waffles are a common thing, I was a little skeptical of how good these waffles could be. But these are genuinely one of the best Belgian waffles I have ever tasted. Make sure to buy one (or two!) before you go!

SBS, one of the Korean broadcasting stations, even named it as 1 of the 3 best snacks to eat in Seoul. You can't miss it, Just look for a tiny waffle shop with a huge line next to Daehanmun Gate.

BONUS HIDDEN GEMS

There is a little park on the same street as Jungmyeongjeon, but a little further away. Look for this sign and and then turn right. Walk up the hill a little and you will see a small park on your right.

The former Russian Legation can be found here and at the top of the hill next to it, you can get a pretty good view of the Namsan Tower on a clear day.

Cold Buckwheat Noodles at Yu Rim Myeon
If you need a place for lunch or a snack, be sure to check out Yu Rim Myeon. It is located in an off alleyway near City Hall exit 11. Their cold buckwheat noodles are quite popular and yes, it is the same Yu Rim Myeon that appeared in the drama "My Love from Another Star" (the noodles that Cheon Song Yi craved and made Do Min Joo get take out for her).

Hope this guide helps your travels and in South Korea and happy travelling!
